Washington named AMC Athlete of the Week
The American Midwest Conference unveiled their latest round of standout performers on Monday and UHSP's Taylor Washington was selected as one of the Women's Track & Field Athletes of the Week for the week of Jan. 22-28. Washington was picked as the "field" athlete for her results from Saturday's showing at the Prin Relays at Principia College in Elsah, Ill.
This past weekend, Washington set a new UHSP record in the high jump by clearing 1.50m (4-11) breaking the previous mark that she co-owned along with Arianna Buduan. Overall, Washington would finish eighth out of 21 competitors in the event. Washington also finshed runner-up in the 60m Hurdles. Her final time of 9.36 gave her a second-place finish just behind Central Methodist's Kailey Johnson who outdistanced Washington by .19 seconds. Washington used a 9.68 seconds finish in the preliminaries to qualify for the finals.
It is the second time this season and third time overall in Washington's young UHSP running career that she has been named AMC Athlete of the Week. She and teammate Hanna Burch were selected as the two AMC Track & Field honorees earlier this year for the week of Dec. 4-10, 2023. She took the honor last year for the week of Dec. 5-11, 2022 during her freshman season.
