Eutectics Open 2026 at John Craft Invitational
CHARLESTON, ILL. – The Eutectic men's and women's track and field teams travelled to Eastern Illinois University on Saturday to put down their first marks of 2026 for the indoor track and field season at the John Craft Invitational. UHSP was one of seven teams competing in the non-scoring meet. Leah Macon-Ford and Taylor Shobe (Washington) raced to third- and fourth-place finishes for the women at the meet. Amari Wiedmeier and Evan McVey led the Eutectics on the men's side, finishing fifth and 10th in their races.
MEET HIGHLIGHTS:
Women
- Leah Macon-Ford qualified for the finals of the 60m dash with the second-fastest time of 7.69 seconds in the preliminaries (of 24 competitors). In the eight-person final, she improved by .01 to finish third overall behind Washington University's Jasmine Wright (7.60) and Eastern Illinois' Abby Venhaus (7.64). Macon-Ford's time of 7.68 is just .02 seconds behind her school record set last season and is the best mark in the American Midwest Conference (AMC) so far this season by .38 seconds.
- Macon-Ford also won her heat in the 200m dash to earn a third-place finish overall with a time of 27.23. Shamari Long finished two spots behind Macon-Ford with a time of 28.07 for fifth place in the event which included 21 competitors. Macon-Ford and Long are currently ranked first and third in the Conference for the 200m dash.
- Taylor Shobe (Washington) won her heat of the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.83 seconds to qualify for the finals with the fourth-fastest overall time of 20 hurdlers competing. She maintained that position in the finals, crossing the finish line at 9.83. Shobe also finished in a four-way tie for seventh place in the high jump, leaping 1.45 (4'9").
- Rylee Eng cracked the top ten both horizontal jumps. In the triple jump, she finished seventh with a leap of 10.06m (33'0.25"). She soared 4.87m (15'11.75") to take ninth place of 20 long jumpers.
- Brianna Ramsey threw a personal-best mark in the shot put, finishing 14th (of 23) at 8.54m (28'0.25").
Men
- Running his first collegiate 600m race, Amari Wiedemeier finished fifth of 18 competitors in the event. With his time of 1:28.27, he becomes the second-fastest 600m runner in Eutectic history behind record-holder Jahari Hines (1:26.56 in 2022). Wiedemeier currently holds the fastest 600m time in the AMC. Jared Morales finished ninth in the event with a time of 1:34.89.
- Evan McVey just missed qualifying for the finals with a 10th-place finish (of 40) in the 60m dash. His time of 7.11 seconds was just .04 seconds from the eighth-place qualifying time. McVey also finished 12th (of 38) in the 200m dash, recording a time of 24.05. McVey currently holds the top times in the 60m and 200m distances for the Conference.
- Brett Bushue picked up a top-ten finish in the high jump, leaping 1.75m (5'8.75") for ninth-place. Clearing 3.60m (11'9.75") in the pole vault, he finished 13th overall. The 2025 Conference champion currently holds the top mark in the AMC for pole vault.
