Macon-Ford qualifies for Nationals at Prin Relays; McVey shines in 60m
ELSAH, ILL. - On the first day of the Principia Relays, UHSP's Leah Macon-Ford qualified for Nationals as she set the pace in the 60m Dash. Macon-Ford was .11 seconds better than the next fastest runner out of the 41-runner field as she finished first in qualifying with a 7.61. That breaks her previous school mark of 7.66 set last year. Maria Sahagun of Central Methodist was second at 7.72. The Eutectics Shamari Long finished tenth with an 8.11. Macon-Ford also led the field in the 200m Dash with a time of 26.62 seconds. Long was 15th in that event at 28.11, missing a top-10 finish by .51 seconds.
Evan McVey improved his school record in the Men's 60m Dash clocking in at 7.06 seconds to come in seventh and qualify for the finals in the event. McVey shaved .01 seconds off his previous school mark that he set earlier this year. There were 82 runners in the field and Ty Kellum of Greenville bested them all at 6.94 seconds. UHSP's Christopher Medlock ran a 7.37 to finish 38th overall. McVey came in 13th in the 200-M Dash at 23.46 while Medlock was 38th in this event as well at 24.62.
Adison Plazek moved into second all-time on the UHSP record list for the Pentathlon with 2201. That trails only Taylor Shobe's 2397 that she amassed last year.
Brett Bushue finished 12th in the Men's Pole Vault as he cleared the bar at 3.75m (12' 3.5") on his final jump. Bushue was also ninth in the Men's High Jump at 1.78m (5' 10")
Rylee Eng came in 11th in the Women's Long Jump at 4.65m (15' 3.25"). Mariah Scott was seven places behind Eng at a leap of 4.39m (14' 5").
In the Women's Weight Throw, Brianna Ramsey came in 21st out of 31 throwers as she tossed at 11.16m (36' 7.5").
In the Women's Distance Medley, the UHSP squad finished seventh out the seven competing teams at 15:30.97 seconds. The Men's Distance Medley team ended up in ninth place out the 11 competing squads with an 11:43.67.
The Principia Relays finish up with their final day on Satuday.
