Macon-Ford Leads Eutectic Women to Third Place at AMC Indoor Championships

ELSAH, ILL. – Leah Macon-Ford successfully defended her double Conference Champion status on Saturday leading the Eutectic women's track and field team to third place of six teams competing at the American Midwest Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships held at Principia College.

MEET HIGHLIGHTS:

Team Point Totals: Columbia 246, Cottey 123, UHSP 108, Haskell 30, HSSU 15, HLGU 13

  • Macon-Ford repeated her first-place finishes from 2025 in the 60m and 200m dashes, improving her UHSP records in both races with times of 7.57 and 25.47 seconds. In addition to the 10 points she scored in each of those races for the Eutectics, she joined teammates Emerald Flores, Adison Plazek, and Whitney Auguste to break the UHSP record in the 4x400m relay with a time of 4:19.55 to finish third for another six total points.
  • Shamari Long finished just behind Macon-Ford in the 60m dash with a personal-best time of 7.99 for eight points. She finished third in the 200m dash with another PR of 27.21 for six more points to total 14.
  • The Eutectic women dominated the hurdles, with Taylor Shobe (Washington), Plazek, Mariah Scott, Campbell Powell, and Destiny Knox sweeping 2nd through 6th places in the 60m Hurdle finals to score 21 of the 31 points available in the event.  
  • Shobe also finished fifth in the High Jump (1.40m – 4'7") for two points to total 10 points at the meet.
  • Rylee Eng scored 10 points in the horizontal jumps for the Eutectics, finishing second in the triple jump (10.48m – 34'4.75") and fifth in the long jump (4.82m – 15'9.75").
  • Abby Baxter was the only competitor in the pole vault, scoring 10 points with her first clearance of the bar at 1.50m (4'11"). She contributed another point by finishing sixth in the 1000m race at 3:58, and earned another 1.5 points for her leg of the third-place distance medley relay with teammates Samantha Smolnik, Layla Aguilar, and Hannah Nation.
  • Nation finished the meet with 9.5 points, adding fourth-place finishes in the 3,000m run (11:35.12) and the mile (5:48).
  • In addition to her third-place finish in the 60m hurdles and leg of the 4x4, Adison Plazek finished sixth in the high jump to total 8.5 points.
  • Emerald Flores ran a new UHSP record-time in the 400m dash to finish sixth at 1:04.68.
  • Whitney Auguste finished fourth in the 600m at 1:56.76 and Campbell Powell added a fourth-place finish in the triple jump (9.90m – 32'5.75").

The Conference championship marks the end of the Indoor season for the Eutectic team. Leah Macon-Ford, who has qualified for the NAIA Indoor National Championships in the 60m dash, will continue preparing the championship meet in Gainesville, Fla., March 5-7. She currently holds the 14th-fastest time in the nation in the event.
