Shobe and Knox Make History at CMU Invite, UHSP Team Competes at SEMO

FAYETTE AND CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO. – The Eutectic women's track and field team competed in two separate meets over three days: Taylor Shobe and Destiny Knox competed at the CMU Invite hosted by Central Methodist University in Fayette, Mo., on Thursday and Friday, while the rest of the UHSP team competed at the Joey Haines Invite hosted by Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau on Saturday.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Taylor Shobe and Destiny Knox made Eutectic track and field history by becoming the first UHSP athletes ever to compete in the heptathlon. The multi-event includes seven separate track and field events: 100m hurdles, high jump, shot put, 200m dash, long jump, javelin throw, and 800m run. Shobe's final score of 2933 sets the record for UHSP with Knox's 2753 as second-best. The pair finished 14th and 16th at the meet, respectively.
  • Leah Macon-Ford finished fifth of 48 sprinters entered in the 100m dash at SEMO with a time of 12.00. She currently leads the Conference with the best times in the 100m and 200m dashes.
  • Rylee Eng hit a personal-best mark in the triple jump at 10.83m (35'06.5"), improving by 8.5 inches, for a top-10 finish in the event.
  • Adison Plazek also recorded a top-10 finish at the meet (8th) with a time of 1:11.80 in the 400m hurdles.
  • Shamari Long shaved off .01 seconds from her best time in the 200m dash for a new PR of 27.02 – the second-best in UHSP history.
  • Hannah Nation hit a personal best in the 1500m run with a time of 5:17.25 to finish 19th in the event and become the third-fastest Eutectic in history at the distance.

The Eutectics will travel to Greenville, Ill., on Saturday to compete at the Greenville Select Meet hosted by Greenville University.
