Stars Outshine Eutectics

ST. LOUIS, MO. – The Stephens College Stars (Mo.) came to St. Louis on Wednesday night to play the UHSP women's volleyball team for their first of two scheduled head-to-head American Midwest Conference (AMC) matches for the 2025 season. The Stars (8-7, 6-1 AMC) took home a three-set victory over the Eutectics in a match that included scrappy defense from both sides, contributing to long points.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS:

Stephens def. UHSP 25-19, 25-12, 25-17

  • After falling behind 6-0 to start the first set, the Eutectics were able to pull together to stay with the Stars for the rest of the set. Unfortunately, the UHSP team was never able to make up all the ground lost, still six points behind when the Stars reached 25 points.
  • In Set 2, the Eutectics were able to stay with the Stars to start, but a six-point scoring run during Fernanda Izar's service gave the visitors a 17-9 lead that was too much to surmount.
  • The Stars maintained the momentum into Set 3, taking an 8-2 lead. Despite a few surges from the Eutectic offense, including multiple kills from Avanell Traylor and service aces from Ava Baggett, Kiley Dyer, and MaKenzie Uribe, Stephens was unrelenting until they had clinched the match at 25-17.
  • Baggett and Uribe racked up 17 and 18 digs, respectively, to lead the Eutectic defense. Hannah Kynaston and Tera Schumacher finished the match with seven kills apiece, often set up by UHSP setter Jenna Brinson who pitched in 20 assists. Uribe also recorded four service aces in the match, pacing the Eutectics'  total of seven.
  • Stephens' Lena Hunziker picked up a double double, collecting 11 kills and 16 digs.
