New career assist record leads Brinson to AMC award

ST. LOUIS, MO - It sort of seems fitting that following a weekend in which UHSP's Jenna Brinson set the new all-time school record for career assists that she also be named the American Midwest Conference's Setter of the Week for the week of October 20-26. But it is not like the career achievement was just window dressing, Brinson's numbers for the week certainly made her a worthy candidate too.

Brinson played in all four matches that the Eutectics had within the counting period and she pile up 152 assists in those four matches, an average of 38 per match. She had a single-season high 55 assists in the match on October 22, a five-set win over Blackburn that set the stage for Brinson's career accomplishement on Saturday. Entering the first of two matches on Saturday, Brinson was 17 assists shy of the school record of 2,869 held by Kaitlyn LaBoube. Brinson set up Tera Schumacher for a kill on the right side of the net to deliver the record breaking assist. She went on to have 43 assists in that match against Mission and then 30 more against Crowley's Ridge. She would add a combined 32 digs and six service aces in the four matches last week.

For the season, the Eutectics' setter is averaging 8.45 assists per set along with 2.25 digs per set. She has 25 service aces, 16 total blocks and 14 kills on the year.

A two-time reigning All-Conference Honorable Mention player, Brinson claims her fourth AMC Setter of the Week award in her career and second this season. She won her earlier award this season for the week of Aug. 31-Sept. 7. Brinson is responsible for the last four AMC Player of the Week nods that any Eutectic has received.

Amiyah Saxton of Crowley's Ridge was named Attacker of the Week and Central Baptist's DaiTona Streets took the AMC Defender of the Week honors along with Brinson's accomplishment. Brinson was selected over eight other nominees for the Setter of the Week award.
