Culver-Stockton too much up front as Wildcats quiet Eutectics
ST. LOUIS, MO – Culver-Stockton brought the offense and made it difficult for their counterparts to get in sync as the Wildcats took down UHSP in straight sets Tuesday night in a non-conference tilt, 25-19, 25-14, 25-16. The Cats combined to swing at a 29.5% clip as the Eutectics had trouble getting ttheir offense to click finishing with a 5% attack rate. The Eutectics found early success in two of the three sets, but never led any of the sets deeper than 13-points in.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
CULVER-STOCKTON def. UHSP; 25-19, 25-14, 25-16
- After UHSP jumped out to a 7-5 to begin the match, Culver-Stockton scored four straight to grab a 9-7 lead and in the process take their first lead of the match thanks to that four-point run. Five of the ensuing seven points would go in favor of the Cats as they earned three of those five points on kills. UHSP climbed within one as Tera Schumacher and Hannah Kynaston had kills and Jenna Brinson served an ace, but CSC responded with a 4-0 run to lead 18-13. The Eutectics were not able to mount any kind of run and Culver-Stockton took the first set, 25-19.
- The second set began heavily in favor of the Wildcats as they scored eight of the first ten with the lone pair of Eutectic points coming on two Kynaston kills. UHSP cut it to four at 10-6, but CSC again went on a 4-0 run and led 14-6. A three-point Eutectic run came much too late as the Wildcats controlled the set and won it 25-14. CSC attacked at a match-best 36.7% in the second set.
- Kynaston ripped a pair to the floor and MaKenzie Uribe registered an ace as the visitors took five of the opening eight to start the third set. Things changed dramatically from that point though. Layla Lojas served four straight points in a 5-0 CSC run, the Cats later had a 3-0 run and another 5-0 run as they assembled an 18-9 advantage. They held that nine point lead through the final points of the evening and took the third set 25-16.
- Hannah Kynaston led all UHSP attackers with ten kills on 30 attempts. Tera Schumacher added six kills.
- Zoe Irvin had 13 kills for CSC and had a 39.3% hitting percentage.
- MaKenzie Uribe had 15 digs to pace the UHSP defense while Jenna Brinson and Ava Baggett each added ten. Brinson had all but one of the Eutectics' 24 assists.
- Lauren Bloom dished out 22 assists while Jaysie Baez had 12 digs for the home club.
- The Wildcats were better than .225 in hitting percentage in all three sets. The Cats racked up 42 kills while UHSP had 25.
- Culver-Stockton had seven service aces, the Eutectics had two.
- The Wildcats improve to 7-0 in recent history against UHSP in a series dating back to 2014.

First up is a Friday night 7:00p match against Central Baptist (8-18, 7-5 AMC) on Friday and then get Columbia and Hannibal-LaGrange in an AMC tri-match on Saturday beginning at 11:00a at Crowley's Ridge College.
