SEASON PREVIEW: Women's XC picked 4th in AMC poll
ST. LOUIS, MO - The UHSP Eutectics are a preseason #4 selection in the American Midwest Preseason Coaches Poll as announced on Thursday. The Eutectics came in with 14 points, finishing ahead of Williams Baptist (10) and Crowley's Ridge (5). UHSP finished just behind both Cottey and Hannibal-LaGrange who finished in a tie for second with 18 points each while Columbia was the preseason favorite with 25 points receiving four of the five first-place votes. The Comets received the other first-place vote.
The Eutectics will be seven deep this year, led by veteran runner Abby Baxter. She led the Euts at last season's AMC Championships clocking in at 27:44.9 for the 6K. There will be a number of familiar faces around Baxter as she is joined by returners Layla Aguilar, Charlie Dunajcik, Karlea Frey, and Laila Wells. Two freshman come on the scene to fill out Head Coach Tim Cary's roster as Hannah Nation (Williamsville, Ill.) and Sage Williamson (Valparaiso, Ind.) join the Eutectics.
It will be a friendly schedule for UHSP this fall as they only leave the state of Missouri once. Of their five scheduled meets, the Eutectics will host two of them including the AMC Championships on Thursday, November 6. UHSP's main home event, the Mikayla Sherrill Fall Classic, will take place on Saturday, October 25. The lone out of state meet is the Nike XC Town Twilight even hosted by Indiana State University on Friday, October 3. To begin the season, the Eutectics run in the Redhawks XC Invite at Southeast Missouri State University on Friday, August 29 followed by the Larry Young Invitational at Columbia College on Friday, September 19.
