Eight different goal scorers lead Cumberland past UHSP

LEBANON, TN – It turned out to be a rough day for the Eutectics against Cumberland as the Phoenix blanked UHSP 13-0 on Saturday afternoon. Cumberland unloaded 49 shots in the game with over half of them being on target. Pau Ortega had a hat-trick while three other goal scorers had a pair each for CU.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Not even two minutes into the contest, the Phoenix grabbed the lead when Luis Cerejo scored the first of his two goals on CU's first shot of the game. Cerejo also had three assists in the contest.
  • Jostin Angel and Harold Perea also each recorded a brace for the Phoenix.
  • Christian Morales started in net for UHSP and made as many saves as goals allowed, nine each. Wyatt Taylor played the second half for UHSP and allowed four goals while making seven saves.
  • Eric Zalaya got the win in net for the Phoenix without facing a shot in the game.
  • Maddox Robertson made the lone save for Cumberland when he stopped Steven Hulsey on UHSP's lone shot on the day.
  • The 13 goals were the third-most goals ever scored against UHSP in a game.
  • This was the first-ever meeting between the Phoenix and the Eutectics.

NEXT UP:

UHSP (1-9) returns home for a non-conference match on Tuesday afternoon against Central Methodist (4-2-4). The Eutectics and Eagles will be meeting for the first time since 2014 when CMU took two games from UHSP that season. This will be the third-ever meeting between the two. Kickoff Tuesday is at 3:00p from Creve Coeur.
