Some good, some bad: Eutectics split a Friday twin-bill with Brescia

HENDERSON, KY – The Eutectics played the first of a pair of weekend doubleheaders on Friday afternoon as they earned a split over the Brescia Bearcats winning game one 3-2 and then dropping game two 11-3 in six innings. In the opener, UHSP made the most of their opportunities as they won by scoring three runs on just five hits. In game two, a six-run sixth ended all discussion as Brescia hit three homeruns in the game including two from Emma Kate Elrod.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

UHSP 3, BRESCIA 2

  • UHSP jumped on Brescia starter Emmie Bullington in the first scoring three times. Hallie Roper singled to score Alicia Kimble who had reached on an error. Ryleigh Davidson single to put two on and Trysten Murphy singled up the middle to score Roper with Davidson scoring on an error in center. UHSP had three hits in the inning and the Bearcats committed two errors.
  • Brescia scored a pair in the third to make it a one-run game as they got RBI hits from Emmie Bullington and Emma Kate Elrod.
  • Emma Henley started in the circle for UHSP and picked up the win (1-1). She departed after tossing four innings allowing two runs while scattering seven hits. She walked and struck out two. Henley escaped trouble in the fourth still with the lead as she stranded a runner at third to end the inning.
  • Anna Lucas entered the circle for UHSP to start the fifth and stranded a pair of Brescia baserunners in the bottom of the fifth. She ended up with the save (1) after a three-up, three-down uneventful sixth and seventh.
  • UHSP prevailed despite getting out-hit, 9-5. Brescia committed three errors in the game to just one for UHSP. The Eutectics' 3-6 hitters accounted for all of their hits. Murphy had the lone two-hit game for UHSP.
  • Emmie Bullington went all seven frames in taking the loss (0-1). She allowed three runs but only one earned on five hits. She stuck out two.

BRESCIA 11, UHSP 3 (6 INNINGS)

  • Game two started exactly the same way game one did: Alicia Kimble reached on a throwing error by the third basemen and two batters later, Hallie Roper drove her home with a single as UHSP took a 1-0 lead.
  • The Bearcats scored five times in the second to take a 5-1 lead as they got homeruns from Isabelle Hayes and Emma Kate Elrod. That chased UHSP starter Talianna Joyner (0-2) from the contest as she went an inning-and-a-third. She allowed five runs on six hits with two walks.
  • The Eutectics briefly made it a game as they trimmed the margin to two scoring a pair in the sixth. Averi Glosemeyer doubled in a run and then scored on a Mackenzie Nelson single to make it 5-3 through five-and-a-half.
  • In the bottom of the sixth, the Bearcats blew the game open scoring six times. One run scored on a Eutectic error, Savannah Jones singled in a run and Elrod ended the contest with a walk-off game-ending grand slam.
  • Eva Kameoka relieved Joyner in the second and pitched a solid three-and-two-thirds. She scattered six hits while walking two. Anna Lucas came on to pitch the sixth for UHSP and yielded six runs albeit only one earned on five hits, retiring only one hitter.
  • Felicity Cunningham (1-0) went five frames allowing three runs, two earned on nine hits. She struck out three as she picked up the win. Jones came in and pitched the sixth, walking one while picking up the save (1).
  • Elrod, Emmie Bullington and Jones all had three-hit games for Brescia. Elrod drove in six runs for the Cats while Jones drove in two.
  • Hallie Roper and Averi Glosemeyer each went 2-for-3 with an RBI for UHSP.

The Eutectics (3-3) continue their stay in Henderson, KY as they meet Oakland City for a pair on Saturday. The Mighty Oaks opened their season today as they dropped a pair against Spring Arbor 7-2 and 11-10. OCU went 31-18 last season. Start times on Saturday are 1:00p and 3:00p.
