Eutectics Split DH with Trojans on Senior Day
ST. LOUIS, MO. – The Eutectic softball team hosted the Hannibal-LaGrange Trojans (7-9, 1-1 AMC) for their second American Midwest Conference (AMC) double header on Friday at the Affton Athletic Association complex. The Eutectics won with a quick 2-0 decision in Game 1, but fell 4-3 in Game 2 to the Trojans. Seniors Emma Henley, Hallie Roper, Kaylin Haas, and Reese Smith were honored after the games.
GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS:
UHSP 2, HLGU 0
- After two scoreless innings, the Eutectics marked the board in the bottom of the third when Alicia Kimble's triple to center field scored Anna Lucas, who reached base with a single to right field. Kimble then scored on a single to center by Hunter Noto getting the Eutectics to a 2-0 lead.
- The Eutectics got four more hits in the next three innings, but were unable to push those across the plate.
- UHSP's error-free defense contributed to winning-pitcher Anna Lucas's complete-game win. Lucas gave up three hits, struck out five, and walked one to earn her third win of the season on the mound.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS:
HLGU 4, UHSP 3
- Game 2 started the same way as Game 1: a quick two innings with no score. This time, however, the Trojans marked the board first by scoring one run in the third off a two-on single to center field that pushed one run across the plate before a bullet throw from UHSP center fielder Payton McClellan to catcher Alicia Kimble was the third putout to end the inning.
- The Eutectics tied it up in the bottom of the inning when Kaylin Haas was hit by a pitch, advanced to third on McClellan's single, then score on a wild pitch.
- The Trojans regained the lead in their next at-bat, scoring three runs on an error and three hits against starting UHSP pitcher Emma Henley.
- The Eutectics notched three hits against HLGU pitcher Alexa Bedford in the bottom of the inning. Singles from Sydney Hinojosa and Reese Smith set up pinch runner Kendal Strozier to score on Kaylin Haas's single. Then, Smith tagged up to score on a fly-out to center to put the score at 4-3-Trojans after four innings.
- Relief pitcher Karlea Frey and the Eutectic defense held the Trojans in their last three at-bats. But, despite hard-hit balls from the Eutectics, the Trojan defense was just as strong. The final score was 4-3 after seven full innings.
- Reese Smith (2-for-3) and Hunter Noto (2-for-4) each had three hits for UHSP.
- Henley is charged with the loss on the mound, giving up eight hits, two earned runs and recording two strikeouts. Frey gave up two hits, a walk, and had one strikeout in her three innings.
