Eutectics Sting Hornets with 81-79 Win in Final Seconds at UHSP
ST. LOUIS, MO. – The Eutectic women's basketball team hosted cross-town rivals the Hornets from Harris-Stowe State University (3-11) on Thursday night for a thrilling American Midwest Conference (AMC) matchup. In the fast-paced game with 37 turnovers and 10 lead changes, the Eutectics edged out the Hornets in the finals seconds to earn their sixth Conference win of the season to take third place in the AMC standings.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
UHSP 81, HSSU 79
- The Eutectics outscored the Hornets 21-19 in the first quarter and 21-18 in the second to head into intermission up 42-37. Aryanna Bull and Alina Bowden each recorded double doubles before the second half began, accounting for 21 of UHSP's 34 rebounds in the period.
- The Purple and Gold were plagued with a series of turnovers to open up the third quarter, allowing the Hornets to score the first 15 points of the second half unanswered and take their largest lead of 56-45 less than five minutes into the third quarter. The Eutectics eventually regained their composure and made up some ground after setting up some solid layups and going 3-4 from the arc. The Hornets held the lead at 63-57 heading into the final 10 minutes.
- The UHSP team held its own in the fourth quarter, but still found themselves down by five (77-73) with two minutes left. A layup from Alise Milenberga got the Euts within two points at 79-77 and with 36 second left, Reece Halley drained two free throws to tie the score at 79. With three seconds on the clock, Bull was sent to the charity stripe sinking both free throws to secure the win at 81-79 for the Eutectics.
- The feisty Hornets recorded 17 steals, forcing 24 Eutectic turnovers in the game. The Eutectics, however, outrebounded the Hornets 58-29.
- The Eutectics finished with three players reaching double doubles: Aryanna Bull scored 24 points for the second-game in a row and 14 rebounds; Alina Bowden had 16 points and a season-high 12 rebounds; and Reece Halley had 12 points and a season-high 15 rebounds. Alise Milenberga (9 points, 7 rebounds), Arianna Buduan (9 points including 3-6 threes), Sara Hameed (5 points, 6 assists), Ceili Ramirez (3 points), and Taylor Hitchcock (3 points) also scored for UHSP.
- Two HSSU guards surpassed 30 points in the game: Cailyn Dilosa had 32 points and seven steals, while Alivia Montgomery recorded 31 points, adding six assists and five steals.

The Eutectics are currently 9-9 overall and 6-2 in the AMC. With Saturday's travel to Columbia College postponed due to the weather, the Eutectics will next compete at home on Thursday, Jan. 29, when they host Central Baptist College (Ark.)(6-10, 3-5 AMC). UHSP defeated the CBC Mustangs 80-49 in their first matchup of the AMC home-and-home series in Arkansas back in December.
