Balanced attack leads UHSP past CBC despite record-setting night from Head

ST. LOUIS, MO – UHSP put seven players in double figures, matched a season-high for points and swept the season series from Central Baptist with a 104-80 triumph on Thursday night. The Purple and Gold held a 52-42 lead at the half and a 28-15 third quarter put the game away for the home club.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

UHSP 104, CENTRAL BAPTIST 80

  • Central Baptist took an early five-point lead 2:50 into the contest. It would be their largest lead of the game at 11-6 after a Raigan Head triple. A Sara Hameed layup put UHSP right back on top at 12-11 to cap a 6-0 run. CBC took their final lead at 13-12 as UHSP led the rest of the way including 22-21 after one.
  • Head went for ten points in the second quarter, but UHSP got 11 from Alina Bowden and ten from Analyssa Maldonado as the Eutectics shot 52.4% in the second quarter to 37.5% for CBC. A 30-21 period put UHSP up 52-42 at recess.
  • In the third, UHSP was electric at 55% shooting. A few Addison Hudspeth foul shots cut the Mustangs deficit to nine at 59-50. But the Eutectics ended all discussion with a 13-4 run to lead 72-54 after a Maldonado three-ball. It was 80-57 at the end of the third.
  • It was an uneventful fourth quarter as UHSP cruised to the win. Head scored 15 alone in the fourth going 7-for-7 at the foul line. Arianna Buduan scored eight in the quarter for UHSP.
  • The Eutectics were led by a season-high 18 points from Reece Halley on 7-for-12 shooting including converting both her three-point attempts. She added 13 rebounds and six assists. Halley is averaging 10.8ppg over the last six games, 3.6 better than her season average.
  • Raigan Head set a pair of CBC single game records in the loss. Her 39 points are a new program high and she did that on 12-of-20 shooting. She was also 13-for-13 from the foul line with the 13 conversions standing a new Mustang record. Head added nine boards.
  • Alise Milenberga and Aryanna Bull each went for 13 points and combined for 11 boards.
  • Sara Hameed and Alina Bowden each scored 12 points. Bowden added four rebounds while Hameed had six steals, five assists and two rebounds. The six steals were easily a season-high for Hameed.
  • UHSP had 25 assists on 39 made field goals. CBC had just 13 assists.
  • The Eutectics set a new season mark with just six turnovers in the game. Their previous best was 13 in a game this year. Central Baptist has 19 turnovers.
  • UHSP is 13-10 all-time against CBC and has now won three straight and nine of the last ten head to head.
  • The win keeps UHSP fully entrenched in the three-spot in the conference race at 7-2. They lead Stephens by a full game despite losing the lone meeting to the Stars thus far. They trail Williams Baptist (9-1) by 1.5 for the second spot.

The Eutectics (10-9, 7-2 AMC) will try to earn a series sweep of Mission (9-11, 5-5 AMC) on Saturday at 1p. UHSP edged the Patriots 104-98 in their previous matchup on December 15.
