Eutectics Roll Over Pioneers

ST. LOUIS, MO. – The Eutectic women's basketball team hosted the Crowley's Ridge College Pioneers on Thursday night for the second game of their American Midwest Conference (AMC) home-and-home series. The Eutectics soundly defeated the Pioneers 87-49 in the UHSP gymnasium, echoing their 31-point victory at CRC in their previous meeting in January, and now boast an eight-game program win streak over CRC.  

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

UHSP 87, CRC 49

  • Prior to the game, the Eutectics and Pioneers both recognized women who battle cancer in the annual Play 4 Kay game. 
  • - The Pioneers, who are still looking for their first win of the season, held their own against the Eutectics in the early minutes with a tie score of 8-8 after five minutes. A jump shot from Analyssa Maldonado then tipped the scales for the Purple and Gold for good, as the Eutectics finished up the first quarter up 19-11.
  • -The Eutectic offense exploded in the second quarter with Aryanna Bull dropping in 10 points for the Eutectics off five field goals attempts and two free throws. Meanwhile, the Eutectic defense held the Pioneers to 10 total points for the quarter so that UHSP would outscore CRC 25-10 in the period. The Eutectics led 44-21 at halftime.
  • The momentum remained with the Eutectics into the second half as they made 9-of-21 field goals for 42.9% in the third quarter. The relentless Eutectic defense allowed only 10 shots from the Pioneers, who would only score six points in the period as the Eutectics racked up nine steals. UHSP outscored CRC 21-6 in the quarter and led 65-27 heading into the final 10 minutes.
  • The Pioneers matched the Eutectics in scoring in the fourth quarter 22-22, but it was too little too late as the Purple and Gold solidified their ninth Conference win with their sweep of the Pioneers.
  • The Eutectics outshot the Pioneers 38.8% to 26.9% from the floor and dominated the defensive end of the game, forcing 27 turnovers by CRC and outrebounding the visitors 45-32.
  • Four UHSP players hit double figures in the game: Aryanna Bull (12), Arianna Buduan (12), Sara Hameed (10), and Taylor Hitchcock (10). Alina Bowden (9), Reece Halley (8), Kierstyn Beard (6), Ceili Ramirez (6), Alise Milenberga (5), Genesis Barnhart (5), Analyssa Maldonado (2), and Allison Sampson (2) also scored for UHSP.  Halley pulled down eight rebounds, while Hameed recorded five assists, five steals, and six rebounds.
  • Brailey Houseman and Mallory Welch each scored 15 points for the Pioneers.

NEXT UP:

Now 12-10 overall and 9-3 in the AMC, the Eutectics are currently sitting third in the Conference standings – just behind Williams Baptist University (11-2) and one game ahead of Stephens College (8-4). The Eutectics will host the Williams Baptist Eagles (Ark.) on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the UHSP gymnasium before heading to Conference-leader Columbia College (12-0) on Tuesday.
