Stephens gets game-winner 11-seconds after UHSP ties it late

COLUMBIA, MO – Lyla Stegmann scored her eighth goal of the season for what she thought might be the goal to forge a tie with Stephens, but just 11 seconds following that, Moriah Carnahan finished off a career game with her fourth goal of the game and the deciding tally in a 5-4 win for the Stars.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

STEPHENS 5, UHSP 4

  • Carnahan opened the scoring eight minutes into the game, but then it was UHSP that evened the score 11 seconds later as Hannah Tyree scored her fourth of the year.
  • Izzy Rogers continue her torrid goal scoring this season as she notched her 11th of the year at 20:09 on an assist from Tyree that gave the Euts a 2-1 lead.
  • The Stars scored three goals sandwiched around halftime that put the lead in their favor 4-2. Addie Butler got her first of the year and Carnahan added two more to give her a hat-trick on the day as the Stars led by a pair with 41:48 left in the game.
  • Just over three minutes after Carnahan's third of the game, Rogers and Tyree hooked up again with this time the latter getting the goal off an assist from the former as UHSP cut it to a 4-3 game.
  • With under ten minutes left and in the 81st minute, Stegmann was able to knot the game at 4-4 on an unassisted goal. Her goal came from a wide angle from the left side of the 18-yard-box and went all the way into the far side of the goal.
  • Carnahan took over the team lead in scoring with her 11th of the year for the eventual winner with 9:01 left. The goal was the result of four passes after the kickoff following the previous UHSP game tying goal. Carnahan fed a through ball to Ava Leininger who took it to the deep left corner of the 18-yard-box. Leininger had a pseudo drop-pass back to Carnahan who one-timed it to the far-right side of the cage to put the Stars ahead.
  • The Eutectics had two more overall shots than Stephens (19-17) and one more on net (11-10).
  • Petra Brncova (4-7-1) was the winning keeper for Stephens with seven saves.
  • The loss in net for UHSP went to Dani Nether (7-4) as she made five saves.
  • The Eutectics missed a chance to pull into a tie for second-place in the AMC standings to join Harris-Stowe and Williams Baptist as three-win teams. Instead, the Eutectics fall into a spot in fourth-place where they and Stephens both have two wins.
