Eutectics Split AMC Tri-Match

COLUMBIA, MO. – The Eutectic women's volleyball team travelled to Columbia, Mo., on Saturday to take part in an American Midwest Conference (AMC) tri-match hosted by Stephens College. The Eutectics played two neutral matches on the Stephens' campus, defeating Williams Baptist University (Ark.) in straight sets, then losing 3-1 to Cottey College (Mo.)

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS:

UHSP def. WBU: 25-17, 25-19, 25-19

• Coming off their first Conference victory of the season against Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.), the Eutectics picked up another AMC victory with a straight-set win over the Willams Baptist Eagles (1-12) to start the day.
• The Purple and Gold came from behind after an early deficit to win the first set, led by a string of kills from Sumanpreet Kaur assisted by Jenna Brinson.
• The second and third sets were close until the final points, when UHSP was able to clinch the sets including service aces from MaKenzie Uribe and Brinson.
• Kaur and Ter Schumacher finished the match with 11 kills each, with Kaur averaging .364 in hitting to lead the team. Brinson picked up another 33 assists, while Joleigh Parker led the Euts on defense with 13 digs.  

Cottey def UHSP: 20-25, 25-15, 25-21, 25-15

• The Eutectics came out swinging, connecting on 11 of 35 attack attempts with only two errors to average .257 hitting in the first set, winning 25-20.
• In the second set, however, the Cottey Comets (6-9) capitalized on UHSP errors to take an early lead and hold it to win the set and tie the score at one apiece.
• The Purple and Gold swung the momentum back to go up 11-7 in Set 3, only to let it slip away as the Eagles upped their blocking game.
• The Eagles maintained the momentum through the fourth set to clinch the match victory with a 7-3 scoring run to finish out the match.
• Avanell Traylor led the Eutectics on offense this match, notching 11 kills on 35 attempts with four errors. Brinson put up 34 assists, Uribe picked up 21 digs, and Kaur recorded four block assists and one solo block.

The Eutectics, now 2-12, will return to the road on Tuesday, Sept. 23, when they travel to St. Mary of the Woods University in Indiana for a 5 p.m. match.
