Eutectics find rough road against SMWC Pomeroys
ST. MARY OF THE WOODS, IN – After winning two of their last three, UHSP just out of AMC play and faced a non-conference powerhouse in St. Mary of the Woods on Tuesday night. The Pomeroys (18-2) had seen their 17-match win streak snapped in the game just prior to the Eutectics coming to town and were able to get back in the win column against UHSP with a straight set 25-11, 25-9, 25-16 victory.

- Early in the first set, four straight SMWC points gave them a 10-5 lead. A kill from Sophia Michaud and a service ace from Hannah Duggan cut the margin to three. But the Pomeroys responded by scoring the next five straight and nine of the next 11 to lead 19-9. Sumanpreet Kaur had two kills in the closing points as St. Mary-Woods took six of the final seven points to take the set 25-11.
- The home club rattled off the first half-dozen points of the second ahead of a timeout by the Eutectics. The first six points that UHSP gained in the set all came off SMWC errors. Sierra Aplanalp had a pair of kills in the set and Kaur added another, but the second set belonged to the Pomeroys, 25-9.
- St. Mary-Woods had four different 3-0 runs in the third set and another string of four straight as they never trailed in the 25-16 set. UHSP had six kills and two aces in the set.
- The Eutectics had more attacking opportunities than SMWC in 95-86, but UHSP had a tough time with the Pomeroys' net defense. UHSP could only churn out 20 kills to 42 for St. Mary of the Woods as the home club racked up 13 total blocks to two for the visitors.
- Sumanpreet Kaur led the purple-clad women with eight kills and a .389 attack percentage. She was the Eutectics' leading kill-getter in a match for the fifth time this season.
- MaKenzie Uribe paced the UHSP defense with nine kills while Jenna Brinson added eight. Brinson also had 14 assists.
- Kia Knox-Dawkins had eight kills to lead SMWC on only 11 total attacks. She only had one error for a .636 hitting percentage. For the match, St. Mary-Woods hit at a .419 clip while UHSP ended up with an -.032 attack percentage.
- Selena Sosa had 16 digs for the Pomeroys and Ariana Cruz-Gonzalez added 18 assists.
- UHSP fell to 0-6 all-time against the Pomeroys.

The Eutectics (2-13, 2-1 AMC) will face conference foes in each of their next six contest beginning with a doubleheader on Friday. Crowley's Ridge (3-12, 2-0 AMC) is in town for a 2:00p contest followed by a second go-round with Williams Baptist (1-12, 0-5 AMC) at 6:00p. The Eutectics swept the Eagles just six days ago at Stephens. The Pioneers were a preseason #4 selection in the AMC Preseason Coaches Poll. UHSP has taken five of the last seven against both CRC and WBU.
