UHSP Splits AMC Home Doubleheader

ST. LOUIS, MO – The Eutectic women's volleyball team hosted two American Midwest Conference (AMC) teams to the UHSP gymnasium on Friday, earning one win and one loss. The UHSP team fell 3-0 to Crowley's Ridge College (Ark.) at 2 p.m., then returned to the court to claim a straight-set victory over Williams Baptist University (Ark.) for the second time this season at 6 p.m. The split puts the Eutectic Conference record at 3-2.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS:

CRC def. UHSP 25-15, 25-16, 25-17

  • The CRC Pioneers (4-12, 3-0 AMC) wasted little time taking a lead in the first set, hitting at .355 with 14 kills on 31 attempts.
  • The Eutectics took a 4-1 lead to start the second set, but the Pioneer hitters found their focus to win seven of the next eight points and take a lead they would hold through the set.
  • The Pioneers never trailed in the third set, confidently taking the match in straight sets.
  • In head-to-head competition, the CRC program trails UHSP 7-3, but have earned their wins against the Eutectics in their last three meetings.
  • Tera Schumacher and Sophia Michaud each recorded eight kills in the match with Jenna Brinson collecting 26 assists. Michaud also pitched in on two blocks, while MaKenzie Uribe led the team in digs with nine.

UHSP def. WBU 25-14, 25-6, 25-17

  • The Eutectics returned to the court for their second match of the day to repeat their victory over the Williams Baptist Eagles (1-14, 0-6 AMC) from last weekend.
  • After a 25-14 first-set win, the Eutectics found another gear in the second set, hitting at .800 with 13 kills on 15 attempts, while holding the Eagles to negative numbers on attack percentage.
  • The WBU team put up a better fight in the third set, matching the Eutectics point for point until Uribe's turn at the service line. Uribe served up eight points in a row, including three aces, to close out the set and earn the match victory for the Purple and Gold.
  • Uribe's three aces were just part of UHSP's 13 aces in the match, with Alani Hicks, Brinson, Joleigh Parker also recording three apiece. Schumacher and Sumanpreet Kaur finished the match in double figures for kills at 13 and 11, respectively, with Kaur hitting at .500. Brinson picked up another 35 assists, while Hicks led the back row with 14 digs and Sierra Aplanalp knocked down two solo blocks.

NEXT UP:

The Eutectics, now 3-14 overall and 3-2 in the Conference, will take the weekend off from competition before hosting two top AMC teams on Tuesday and Wednesday, Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 for the first matches of home-and-home series. On Tuesday, UHSP will face Columbia College (Mo.)(4-1 AMC), then take on Stephens College (Mo.)(5-1 AMC) on Tuesday.
