Eutectics Take One Set from Panthers

ST. LOUIS, MO. – The Eutectic women's volleyball team hosted NCAA Division III Greenville University Panthers (Ill.) for a non-conference matchup on Tuesday night in the UHSP gymnasium. After dropping the first set, the Eutectics rallied to tie the score at two apiece, but were unable to maintain the momentum, eventually falling 3-1 to the Panthers (16-9).

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS:

Greenville def. UHSP 25-11, 16-25, 25-16, 25-20

  • The Panthers started strong, taking a 5-0 lead and maintaining a healthy lead throughout the set. The visitors notched 13 kills in the set as the Eutectics struggled with consistency, committing 10 errors.
  • In the second set, however, the Eutectics turned the tables against a new GU lineup. A 6-point run during MaKenzie Uribe's serve shifted the momentum to the Purple and Gold at 10-4, and the UHSP team brought it home from there. The 25-16 set win was highlighted by five Eutectic blocks.
  • The third set was a battle through the first 24 points until Greenville was able to take the lead at 13-12 with an ace by Emily Ruppert and hold it, winning eight of the last nine points, punctuated with two service aces from Emma Ratermann.
  • The Panthers were able to take an 11-7 lead in Set 4, and despite scrappy defense from the Eutectics, were able to finish the match off with a 25-20 set win.
  • The Eutectics' eight total blocks are the most this season, but one less than Greenville on the night.
  • Sumanpreet Kaur led the Eutectic offense with seven kills on 21 attempts. Jenna Brinson added 24 assists to inch closer to the school career record, and Joleigh Parker picked up 14 digs.
