Mission Patriots continue winnings ways over Eutectics
SPRINGFIELD, MO - UHSP finally played their first game in the new year with a Saturday afternoon AMC tilt against Mission. The Patriots used a big second half to come away with a 94-90 win over the Eutectics. Late in the first half Ahian Barnett hit a layup to give UHSP a 48-37 lead with 2:40 remaining, but Mission rallied for a 9-1 run to make things a little more manageable at the half with the Eutectics still in front 49-46.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
- Mission improves to 11-3 against UHSP in the last 14 meetings and have now won five straight. UHSP has not beaten the Patriots since a 108-101 (OT) victory on Oct. 23, 2020.
- Brock Davis led the Eutectics scoring 24 points going 9-for-12 from the floor, including 3-of-4 from beyond the arc. He added five rebounds. It was the fourth time this season that Davis was the UHSP leading scorer and his 24 points were a season-high.
- Ahian Barnett scored 21 points and seven rebounds and Dwight Newsome came off the bench to score 20 points with five assists.
- Peyton Golightly was a force inside for Mission going a perfect 9-for-9 from the floor leading the team in scoring with 24 points.
- The Patriots had five players in double figures: Eli'Jah Smith had 19 points, Quinn Kusgen added 13 and Lawson Beem and Jacques Thomas each had ten.
- UHSP shot a season-high 47.6% from the three-point line on 10-of-21 shooting. Mission was 7-for-25 from beyond the arc (28%).
- Each team made 32 field goals in the game,
- Ahian Barnett made a three-pointer with 3:41 remaining as UHSP reclaimed the lead at 81-80 after they trailed by 13 with 8:27 left.
- Lawson Beem made four clutch free throws in the final :15 seconds to twice give the Patriots a two-possession lead.
- The 90-points are the second-most scored in a single game this season for UHSP. Their season high is 97 against Fontbonne on Nov. 18.
- The game featured 16 ties and 16 lead changes.

The Eutectics (5-10, 0-7 AMC) will entertain Central Christian College of the Bible (3-10, 0-3 MCCC) on Tuesday for a non-conference rescheduled affair at 6:00pm. The original meeting was postponed due to weather from Jan. 4.
