Owls Fly Away with AMC Victory over Eutectics

FULTON, MO. – The Eutectic men's basketball team faced off with the top team in the American Midwest Conference (AMC) on Thursday night in Fulton, Mo., falling 102-62 to the William Woods Owls (18-2, 10-1 AMC).

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • The Eutectics matched up with the Owls in the first six minutes, taking an 18-17 lead after a Dwight Newsome triple and a layup from Moctar Keita. The Owls followed up with a 10-2 scoring run to go up 27-20 by the ten-minute mark. In the next minute, UHSP's David Moore made a layup and drained a triple to put the Eutectics within three (29-26). But, the Owls were able to notch the next 13 points in a row and took a significant lead that they maintained that lead through to halftime (53-36), despite 50% three-point shooting by the Eutectics (6-12).
  • In the second half, the Owls doubled down, extending their lead with stellar 75% shooting (21-28) to outscore the Eutectics 49-26 and outrebound the Purple and Gold 23-6.
  • The Eutectics forced 14 WWU turnovers (while giving up only 12 of their own) and earned 12 points off turnovers to the Owls' 10.
  • The Owls 81.8% free throw shooting accounted for 18 of their points. The teams matched up on three-point field goal percentage (38.1% WWU, 33.3% UHSP), but the home team dominated the boards, outrebounding the Eutectics 45-23, and finished with an impressive 62.3% shooting percentage from the floor.
  • Ahian Barnett was the Eutectics' top scorer with 19 points, adding four rebounds, two assists, and two steals. David Moore also reached double figures in scoring with 12 points. Moctar Keita (9), Dwight Newsome (8), Brock Davis (7), Braylon Rios (3), Landon Engelage (2), Yigit Ekinci (1), and Bryant Odunayo (1) also scored for the Eutectics.
  • Three WWU players finished with 20 points or more: Nate Schwartze (21), D'Mari Wilitz (20), and Henry Shannon III (20). Shannon also nabbed 11 rebounds.

NEXT UP:

The Eutectics, now 6-15 overall and 0-12 in the AMC, will remain on the road through this weekend. On Saturday, they travel to Hannibal, Mo., to take on Hannibal-LaGrange University (9-10, 6-6 AMC) at 3 p.m.
