Eutectics Defeat Eagles for First AMC Victory

ST. LOUIS, MO. – The Eutectic men's basketball team earned its first American Midwest Conference (AMC) victory of the season on Saturday, taking down the Williams Baptist University Eagles with a score of 83-76 in the UHSP gymnasium. The Eutectics' relied on strong shooting and fastbreak points to even the home-and-home series against the Eagles (4-16, 1-13 AMC), and avenge their first matchup three-point loss in Arkansas in December.      

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Down by three (10-7) after four minutes, the Eutectics went on a 21-2 scoring run, connecting on 8-of-10 shots from the field to take a lead of 28-12 after 10 minutes of play. The Eagles were able to put together 20 points in the next 10 minutes, but the Purple and Gold still held a significant lead of 44-32 at halftime.
  • The Eutectics held their lead to around 10 points early in the second half. But at 11:30, with the score 63-50 in favor of UHSP, the Eagles went on a 10-point run to challenge the Euts at 63-60. At 6:20, the score was tied at 65-65 when the UHSP head coach Danny Brown called a timeout.
  • A Landon Engelage triple ended the Eutectic drout and regained the lead for the Eutectics that they would not relinquish. The Eutectics were able to hold off WBU challenges through the final buzzer with perfect shooting from the field (5-for-5).
  • The Eagles finished the game with a respectable 45.1% shooting (32-71), but the Eutectics topped that with a whopping 59.6% field goal percentage (31-52), tallying 20 assists and 12 fastbreak points.
  • Landon Engelage finished the game with 16 points, going 6-for-8 from the floor and 2-for-4 from the arc. Brock Davis collected 14 points and eight rebounds. Ahian Barnett and Jasmin Suvalija  each tallied 11 points with Suvalija going 4-for-6 from the floor and 3-for-5 for threes. Dwight Newsome scored 10 points while racking up six assists, four rebounds, and a block. Sean Paradise Jr. (6), Hayden Campbell (4), David Moore (4), Yigit Ekinci (3), Bryant Odunayo (2), and Moctar Keita (2) also scored for the Eutectics.
  • Elisha Cofield and Amarion Wilson each scored 16 points for the Eagles. Cofield also picked up  nine rebounds and Wilson recorded six assists.

Now 7-17 overall and 1-14 in the Conference, the Eutectics will play two of the last three games of the regular season at home, starting with Columbia College (18-6, 11-3 AMC) on Tuesday, Feb. 11, at 7:30 p.m.
