Spartans Remain Undefeated over Eutectics
ST. LOUIS, MO. – Former American Midwest Conference foes the Missouri Baptist University Spartans hosted the Eutectic men's basketball team at Maryville University in St. Louis on Saturday evening. The Eutectics played a solid second-half, but it wasn't enough to recover from their 11-point first-half deficit. With the 80-71 win, the Spartans remained undefeated against the Eutectics in 23 games.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
MBU 80, UHSP 71
- The Eutectics came out strong, taking an 11-9 lead in the first eight minutes. But, the Spartans were able to outscore the Eutectics 13-4 in the next four minutes and take a sizable lead and swing the momentum in their favor.
- The UHSP team was never able to recover from the MBU surge, finishing the first half down 40-29.
- After a sluggish start to the second half, the Eutectics found themselves down by 18 points (48-30) before clawing their way back to 59-48 at the 10-minute mark following two triples and three free throws from Landon Engelage.
- The Spartans regained a 74-57 lead before four-made free throws from Justin Coleman kicked off another surge in the last five minutes from UHSP that would bring the Euts to within nine for the final score.
- The Eutectics forced nine turnovers in the second half and improved their shooting to 43% to outscore the home team 42-40 in the second half.
- Overall, the Spartans outrebounded the Eutectics 34-20 and outshot the Eutectics 54%-43%.
- For the second game in a row, Landon Engelage was the high scorer for UHSP, dropping in 18 points, including 3-of-4 from the arc. Justin Coleman and Jasmin Suvalija also reached double figure in points with 16 and 14, respectively, with Coleman also picking up 4 assists.
- Three players hit 16 points for the Spartans, with Alex Wineholt grabbing 11 rebounds.

Now 1-3, the Eutectics will travel to Canton, Mo., on Tuesday to take on the Culver-Stockton College Wildcats at 7:30 p.m.
