Trojans Tame Eutectics
ST. LOUIS, MO. – The Eutectic men's basketball team hosted the Hannibal-LaGrange University Trojans (Mo.)(10-6) on Thursday night for the teams' first meeting of the American Midwest Conference (AMC) home-and-home series. The Trojans never faltered in the matchup, taking the lead in the first minute of play and extending it as the game continued.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
HLGU 87, UHSP 54
- When the Eutectics won possession off the tip, Bryan Odunayo immediately drained a jumper to take the lead for the Eutectics. In response, the Trojans' Ian McDonald sunk a three to go up 3-2 before a minute had passed. From there on out, the Trojans never gave up the lead.
- Up 11-8 at 13:46, the Trojans took advantage of a six-minute dry spell by the Eutectics to score 12 points in succession. The Eutectics recovered a bit before the end of the first half, but the Trojans continued to outshoot the home team 46.7%-30.3% from the field to held a 20-point lead by halftime (44-24).
- The Purple and Gold improved in the solid second half, scoring 30 points at 41.7% (10-24) and outrebounding HLGU, 16-15. But, the Trojans cranked up their accuracy to extend their lead further, shooting at 52.9% (18-34), including five triples, to score 43 points.
- 11 Trojan steals contributed to the Eutectics' 14 turnovers in the game and converted to 21 points for the Trojans.
- Perimeter shots just were not falling for the Eutectics, who went 4-20 from the arc. The Trojan sharp-shooters went 10-22 for 45.5% for threes.
- Landon Engelage led the Eutectics in scoring, putting up 16 points. Jasmin Suvalija pulled down 10 rebounds along with four points and Odunayo recorded three assists and eight points. The rest of the UHSP points came from: Greg Anderson (8), David Moore (7), Brennen Walker (4), Carmello Bostwick (4), Christian Harwood (2), and Owen Pau (1).
- Six Trojan players reached double digits in scoring. Josh Talton led all scorers with 21 points, and added seven rebounds, four steals, and three assists.
- The Trojans now rank second in the Conference standings with a 4-1 record.

After five Conference games, the Eutectics are still looking for their first AMC win, with an overall record of 3-15. They will have a week off from competition before they host their next AMC matchup: Harris-Stowe State University (Mo.)(2-11, 0-5 AMC) on Thursday, Jan. 22, at 7:30 p.m.
