Macon-Ford and Engelage named AMC Players of the Week

ST. LOUIS, MO - Monday afternoon, the American Midwest Conference released their weekly Player of the Week awards for the various sports. Two UHSP athletes were named to the weekly list of winners including Leah Macon-Ford as Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week and Landon Engelage as Men's Basketball Offensive Player of the Week.

Leah Macon-Ford continued her dominance on the track in Saturday's Prin Relays at Principia College. She set yet another UHSP record, this time in 300M distance. She ran a 43.23 to finish third overall at the meet and in the process demolished the previous UHSP record of 46:10. On Friday, she qualified for the NAIA National Championships in the 60M Dash prelims with a time of 7.61. She repeated with another first-place finish in the finals on Saturday with a time of 7.68 seconds, .07 seconds faster than the second-place finisher.

It is the second time this season that Macon-Ford has received the weekly honor from the AMC and sixth time in her UHSP career. Earlier this year, Macon-Ford and teammate Taylor Shobe swept the AMC Track Athlete of the Week awards on January 19.

On the hardwood, Engelage turned in an impressive two games over the counting period. He scored 29 points against Central Baptist last Thursday and then followed that up with a career-high 33 points in Saturday's loss to Mission. In the two games combined, he shot 24-for-47 (51.1%) from the floor, 6-of-21 (28.6%) from the three-point line and 8-for-10 (80%) from the foul line. Engelage had a double-double against the Patriots with 13 rebounds as he had 19 in the two games combined. He also had four assists and three steals in the two games. He has scored double figures in 11-straight games including having 20-or-more in six of those. His 18.0 point-per-game average currently leads the club.

For the Eutectics, it is the second Player of the Week award in Men's Basketball so far this season, as teammate Brennen Walker was named Defensive Player of the Week on January 26. It is the second award for Engelage in his career as he was the AMC Player of the Week on December 11, 2023.

Along with the two UHSP recipients, on the Track & Field side Columbia's Claudia Dixon was named the AMC Field Athlete of the Week. On the Men's Basketball front, Williams Baptist's Kylen Kelly was named the Defensive Player of the Week.
