Eutectics Fall at Trojan Arena

HANNIBAL, MO. – Following back-to-back American Midwest Conference (AMC) wins on their home court, the Eutectic men's basketball team had two trips on their docket this week. After a trip to Columbia on Tuesday, the UHSP team travelled to Hannibal-LaGrange University on Thursday night in hopes of avenging their January loss to the Trojans in the Conference home-and-home series. The HLGU Trojans, however, who are currently ranked second in the AMC standings with a 10-2 record, achieved the same result as their first meeting with the Eutectics with a solid 92-52 victory over UHSP.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

HLGU 92, UHSP 52

  • The Eutectics got up 5-0 after Jasmin Suvalija drained a three off a pass from Carmello Bostwick to start the game, and then Yigit Ekinci fed Bostwick for a layup before two minutes had elapsed.
  • The Eutectics held the lead for five minutes until HLGU's Josh Talton made back-to-back triples to tie and take the lead at 13-10. It was the beginning of a barrage of threes by the Trojans, who would finish the half shooting 53.8% from the arc, making seven-of-12 3-pt field goal attempts, and shooting 70.4% from the field (19-for-27). Suvalija hit 4-of-8 threes in the first half to lead the Eutectics, who shot a respectable 42.9% as a team from the floor. The Trojans led 51-29 at halftime.
  • Both teams' accuracy dropped off in the second half, but the Trojans still drained seven of their 14 attempts from the perimeter, managing 48.3% from the floor while the Eutectics struggled with consistency. Ekinci and Christian Harwood combined for eight of UHSP's 18 rebounds in the half, which matched HLGU. Still, the Trojans outscored the Euts 41-23 in the second half.
  • Suvalija led the UHSP scorers with 14 points. Landon Engelage also reached double figures in points with 11. Ekinci tallied nine points, seven rebounds, and six assists. Bostwick (6), David Moore (6), Harwood (3), Donovan Elmore (2), and Brennen Walker (1) also scored for the Eutectics.
  • Josh Talton and Ian McDonald each scored 19 points for the Trojans, who had five players make double digits.
