Cougars' three-point barrage ends Eutectics' season

SPRINGFIELD, MO – The Eutectics opened the 2026 American Midwest Conference Postseason Tournament on Thursday afternoon against the field's top-seed, Columbia College. The Cougars swept the regular season series from UHSP winning five days ago by two dozen, but 16 days ago by just 12. The Eutectics were hoping to replicate their second half from that earlier matchup when they carved a 20-point deficit down to five with about three minutes to go. This time though in the tournament, the Cougars lit it up from beyond the three-point arc going 17-of-29 for easily a season-high of 58.6% as they cruised to a 98-55 win. The 17 made threes tie for sixth-most in a single game in CC history.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

COLUMBIA 98, UHSP 55

  • The Eutectics started with a Brennen Walker layup and two threes from Landon Engelage to go up 8-6 early. But, the Cougars quickly found their groove and took the lead after five minutes, extending that lead to 48-26 by halftime with 62.1% shooting from the floor and a whopping 69.2% from the arc (9-13).
  • The Cougar triples continued into the second half, as the team made four in the first five minutes to extend their lead further. The Eutectics were never really able to get their offense going, and found themselves down 80-38 with 10 minutes left in the game. The UHSP squad outscored the Cougars 15-6 in the final five minutes, making 6 of 11 field goals, but the Cougar lead was too much to overcome.
  • Columbia attempted five fewer field goals than UHSP but made 16 more as they connected at 60.0% for the game to UHSP's 30.8%.
  • UHSP only turned the ball over nine times while taking it away from the Cougars 11 times, but Columbia dominated the glass to the tune of 42-28. The nine turnovers were one shy of a season-low for the Eutectics.
  • Landon Engelage paced UHSP with 15 points, four rebounds and two steals. He was the lone Eutectic in double-figures. Brennen Walker led the club on the glass with seven rebounds.
  • Columbia had five players in double-figures as they were led by Max Rieger who scored 20. Adam Sausele and Jemeal Goines each added 13 with Goines grabbing 11 rebounds.
