Glosemeyer Homers Twice, but Eutectics Succumb to Comet Sweep on Sunday
NEVADA, MO. – The Eutectic softball team lost a pair of close American Midwest Conference (AMC) games to Cottey College on Sunday in Nevada, Mo. Freshman Averi Glosemeyer hit a home run in each game to rack up five RBIs on the day and account for two of the eight home runs in the series (three from UHSP). Both games of the series were one-run games as UHSP fell 6-5 in Game 1 and 5-4 in Game 2 against the 21-6 Comets, who currently lead the AMC softball standings.
GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS:
COTTEY 6, UHSP 5
- Both teams scored one run in the first inning, but Averi Glosemeyer blasted her first home run of the day in the top of the second to score Jacy Knox and take a 3-1 lead for UHSP.
- The Eutectics held that lead until the bottom of the third, when Cottey notched four hits, including back-to-back home runs, to score four runs and take the lead at 5-3. Cottey's Amelia Gassman would notch her second home run of the game in the bottom of the fifth to score one more to take the home team lead to 6-3.
- In their final at bat, the Eutectic offense came alive with Alicia Kimble starting off the inning with a solo home run. Then, Hunter Noto singled, was pushed to third with a Ryleigh Davidson double, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Mackenzie Nelson to get within one run of the Comets at 6-5. Trysten Murphy followed up with a single and advanced on a Comet error that followed. But, UHSP would come up just short of a tying run to force the bottom of the seventh.
- Hunter Noto went 3-for-4 at the plate and scored two runs, while Averi Glosemeyer and Mackenzie Nelson each recorded two RBIs for UHSP.
- Starting UHSP pitcher Emma Henley pitched three innings, allowing five runs on seven hits, and recording two strikeouts and one walk. Anna Lucas finished up the second half of the game on the mound, allowing one run on three hits with four strikeouts and two walks.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS:
COTTEY 5, UHSP 4
- The Eutectic bats started hot, with Trysten Murphy's RBI single followed by Averi Glosemeyer's three-run homer to put four runs on the board in their first at-bat.
- The Comets would score one run on four hits in the bottom of the inning to put the Eutectics up 4-1 after one inning.
- Gassman would hit her third home run of the day in the bottom of the third, scoring two runs to tighten the score to 4-3.
- It was another Comet home run in the fifth inning that would score two runs and put Cottey on top at 5-4.
- Glosemeyer and Eva Kameoka had the last two hits for the UHSP squad in the sixth inning, but they were not enough to change the score and the Comets rode out their 5-4 to the end.
- Averi Glosemeyer led the Eutectics with two hits (including a home run) with three RBIs and a run on three at-bats. Alicia Kimble went 2-for-4 from the plate.
- Talianna Joyner pitched 2.1 innings, giving up three runs on six hits, striking out three and walking three. Karlea Frey relieved Joyner, finishing with two runs on three hits with three strikeouts.

The Eutectics, now 11-11 overall and 5-5 in the AMC, will take a break from Conference competition as they travel to Galesburg, Ill., on Wednesday to take on NCAA Division III Knox College for a double header starting at 2 p.m.
