Glosemeyer Cranks Two Home Runs in Game 1 as Eutectics Split with Patriots
AFFTON, MO. – The Eutectic softball team hosted the Mission University Patriots (16-10, 5-3 AMC) from Springfield, Mo., on Tuesday for an American Midwest Conference (AMC) doubleheader. The Eutectics won Game 1, 4-3, with two home runs by Averi Glosemeyer and a walk-off RBI single by Sydney Hinojosa. The Patriots then won Game 2 at 2-0 recording three doubles in the fourth and fifth innings.
GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS:
UHSP 4, MISSION 3
- Mission got on the board, right off the bat, scoring one run off two hits and a sacrifice fly to score one run.
- Averi Glosemeyer blasted the ball over the left field fence for hit her first home run of the game in the bottom of the second inning to even the score at one apiece.
- After two scoreless innings, the Patriots regain the lead in the top of five, scoring two runs off a hit, a walk, and an error to go up 3-1.
- The Eutectics tied the score at 3-3 in the bottom of the sixth when Glosemeyer hit a two RBI homer (over the left field fence again), scoring pinch runner Jacy Knox.
- The Euts held the Pats in the top of the seventh. Then, used their final at-bat to earn the walk-off win. Eva Kameoka, who was rock solid all day on defense at second base, ripped a triple to center field. With no outs, pinch hitter Sydney Hinojosa singled to center field to score Kameoka and win it for UHSP 4-3.
- With her two home runs, Averi Glosemeyer finished the game at 3-for-3 from the plate with three RBIs and two runs.
- Trysten Murphy pitched a solid six innings for UHSP, recording five strikeouts and allowing six hits, one earned run, and six walks. Karlea Frey pitched the final inning, notching one strikeout and allowing one hit.
- The Eutectics finished with eight hits against Mission pitcher Hailey Presley, who collected five strikeouts, gave up three earned runs and no walks.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS:
MISSION 2, UHSP 0
- There was only one hit by each team in the first three innings of Game 2.
- In the top of the fourth, the Patriots hit two doubles to score one run. Then, in the fifth, they pushed one more across the plate with a single and a double.
- The Eutectic offense couldn't really get much going against MU pitcher Kate Potter, who struck out five and walked two, allowing only three hits.
- UHSP pitcher Anna Lucas also struck out five, walked one, and gave up five hits.
- Averi Glosemeyer added another hit in the game to go 4-for-6 for the day. Alicia Kimble hit a double and Hallie Roper accounted for the third hit in Game 2 for UHSP.
UP NEXT:
The Eutectics are now 14-12 and 6-6 in the Conference. On Wednesday, the Eutectics will be back on their home field hosting a rescheduled AMC doubelheader with Central Baptist College (Ark.)(20-14, 5-1) beginning at 1 p.m. It is the second of four AMC doubleheaders scheduled this week, as the UHSP team will travel to Arkansas on Thursday to take on Crowley's Ridge on Friday and Williams Baptist on Saturday.
