Eutectics Blast Three Homers, but Mustangs Sweep Series
AFFTON, MO. – Despite home runs from Alicia Kimble, Averi Glosemeyer, and Trystan Murphy, the Eutectic softball team dropped both games of the American Midwest Conference (AMC) doubleheader at home on Wednesday versus the Central Baptist College Mustangs (22-14, 7-1 AMC). After a 7-6 loss in Game 1, the Eutectics fell 6-2 in Game 2.
GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS:
CBC 7, UHSP 6
- After two scoreless innings, the Mustangs started the scoring with a three-run homer by Kinley Johnson in the top of the third.
- In the bottom of the inning, Alicia Kimble hit her own solo home run to mark the board for UHSP. Then, Hunter Noto reached on an error with one out, advanced on Mackenzie Nelson's single, and then scored before the second out of a double play to make it 3-2.
- Averi Glosemeyer continued her home run streak, blasting one over the left field fence to tie it up at 3-3. Then, a two RBI single from Trysten Murphy scored Noto and Kimble in the bottom of the fourth to put the Euts up 5-3.
- The Mustangs were able to re-take the lead at 6-5 in the top off six off three hits and three errors. But, the Eutectics responded in the bottom of the inning with a walk and back-to-back hits from Sydney Hinojosa and Eva Kameoka to score pinch-runner Payton McClellan and tie the score at six-all.
- In the final inning, the Mustangs took advantage of another Eutectic error and a hit to score one more and take a 7-6 lead. The UHSP team was unable to score in their final at-bat, giving up the win to CBC pitcher Ryleigh Keele (11-3), who struck out four, walked two, and gave up nine hits (including two home runs) and four earned runs.
- UHSP's Anna Lucas was charged with the loss after 5.2 innings where she recorded four strikeouts, 11 hits, and four earned runs.
- Alicia Kimble finished the game with two hits in three at-bats, including a home run, with one RBI and two runs.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS:
CBC 6, UHSP 2
- The offense was mostly quiet in the first two innings before the Mustangs pushed one over home plate in the top of the third off a hit-by-pitch and a single.
- Two innings later, CBC would add four more runs to their tally off four hits and an error to go up 5-0.
- After a walk and two singles, the Eutectic pinch runner Jordan Schell scored on a wild pitch to mark the board for UHSP.
- Trysten Murphy would hit her home run to left-center in the bottom of the sixth inning to put the score at 5-2.
- After a fly out and a pickoff, the Mustangs recorded back-to-back doubles to score one more run in the seventh to go up 6-2. The Eutectics were unable to get anything going in their final at-bat, conceding the loss.
- CBC's Lauren Woodard (5-2) earned the win after four innings, striking out three and allowing six hits and one earned run. Isabella Sawyers recorded the save.
- The Eutectic starting pitcher Talianna Joyner (2-3) was charged with the loss after five innings, including four strikeouts, six hits, five walks, and four earned runs.
- The Eutectics' seven hits were spread out evenly between seven batters. The Mustangs collected 10 total hits.
UP NEXT:
The Eutectic overall record is now 14-14 and they are 6-8 in the Conference. They will get on the road tomorrow and travel to Arkansas where they will play AMC double headers against Crowley's Ridge College (1-31, 0-6 AMC) in Paragould on Friday at 2 p.m. and Williams Baptist University (26-10, 5-1 AMC) on Saturday at 12 p.m.
